Trash To Treasure One man's trash becomes one woman's treasure. I rescued this old worn out chair from a friend who did not want it any longer. He and his wife were going to throw it out and buy a whole new set of outdoor furniture. Well, the thrifty person I love to be could not let this happen to something that had so much more potential on my patio than in a landfill. I rescued two of the chairs and a friend rescued the table and the other four chairs. I was so excited about what I could do with this pair of worn out old chairs! I brought them home as if I had just bought new furniture; to me they were going to be new with just a little attention. I purchased two cans of hammered metal spray paint from Lowe's at $3.00 per can, 3 yards of material on sale at the local Hobby Lobby for $10 per yard, and thread to match. For the cost of only material and paint, which was a total of $36.00, and a little time, these two chairs were refreshed and looking like new. This is not a bad price to have two new chairs with beautiful cushions for only $18.00 each. These are very heavy duty and sturdy chairs, which would cost a bundle new. There was nothing hard about redoing these chairs. First, I cleaned the metal parts to remove any dirt and dust, then I applied the paint according to the instructions on the can. To make the cushions, all I had to do was lay the old cushions down and wrap the material around them to see how much to cut off. Then I just sewed a basic seam up the two sides and sewed across the corners on one end like a pillow case, keeping the material wrong side out I left one end open.. Next, I turned the material right side out and slipped the cushion into the new sewn cover. Then when I had it snug on the cushion. I just sewed the bottom hem up by tucking inside the slip and hand sewing across to close it up. Or you could also sew in a zipper if you preferred so you could take the cover off and wash it. You could also just tuck the material under the seat. No one would ever know but you if you want to just leave it open for easy removal later. So look out for that trash, because it can be turned into treasure very easily! Mae
